Abstract

This paper aims at understanding the traditional fishermen’s profile in Manado and the accessibility of working capital and investation by identifying business strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This research method uses descriptive statistical, SWOT, and financial analysis. Traditional fishermen in Manado have the power (S) of experience and high coaching skills, training from the government, and the access of large local markets. The weaknesses (W) are boat is simple; lack of business development capital, have no access to financial institutions, and not using technology. Opportunities (O) are high potential of fish; ships do not operate on the coast, and government assistance. The threat (T) are weather is uncertain, and coastal reclamation. Improvement of fisherman's welfare is done through business development that is implementing tool from pelang ship to pajeko ship. Through financial analysis of working capital and investment then this is worth doing because the investment return is around 1.1 years. To access working capital and investment, government and financial instituion help and assistance are needed. This study shown that fishermen business is potential to be deveoped, with the help of capital investment and goverment assistance, training from higher education institution such as business management and technology implementation.
