Seaweed Business Development Strategy in Kecamatan Karimunjawa Kabupaten Jepara

Abstract

 The feasibility of cultivation of seaweed farming in Karimunjawa waters conducted by cultivators during this time is generally not well recapitulated so that the result of business feasibility analysis is not known by the people who do not know seaweed cultivation business. In addition, seaweed farmers have not identified external and internal environmental factors to determine their future strategy.
The purpose of this research is to know the development strategy of seaweed farming business in Karimunjawa. The analysis tool used is SWOT matrix to formulate a business strategy. This matrix can clearly illustrate how external opportunities and threats facing a business can be tailored to the strengths
and weaknesses it has. The results of analysis there are seven alternative strategies in seaweed development business in Kecamatan Karimunjawa, namely: (1) establish small scale seaweed processing industry; (2) developing new types of processed products; (3) developing research units on raw materials and processed products in order to establish quality standards; (4) improving the skills of farmers and craftsmen of seaweed processed products; (5) improving the quality of dried seaweed processed products; (6) enhancing self-reliance through a process of sustainable business development; and (7) publicize the promotion and marketing process of seaweed processed products efficiently.
