Transesterifikasi Minyak Nyamplung (Calophyllum Inophyllum L) dengan Katalis Cao dan Naoh Menggunakan Microwave

Abstract

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel for diesel engines produced by trans esterification reactions
and esterification of plant or animal fat oil with short chain alcohols such as methanol. The reaction
requires a catalyst which is generally a strong base, so it will produce a new chemical compound called
methyl ester in this study the raw materials used are nyamplung oil. In making this biodiesel consists of
esterification and trans esterification process. The esterification process was performed to lower the FFA
content of nyamplung oil which was still high at 36.3% by using sulfuric acid catalyst (H2SO4) and
carried out on water bath heater at 60 0C for 2 hours. The trans esterification process of nyamplung oil
was conducted using microwave heater with 50, 60, 70, and 80 minutes and the weight of NaOH and CaO
catalyst 0.2, 0.6, 1% as variable changed in this study, while for fixed variable use temperature 60 0C
and molar ratio oil: methanol 1: 6. From the result of the research, various variables obtained the
optimal condition of the trans esterification process is the NaOH catalyst at the 80th minute the weight of
1% catalyst that meets the Indonesian National standard that has the type mass value of 0.8840 g / cm3
and FAME 91.32%, while on the CaO catalyst that meets the standard SNI is at minute 60 weight of
catalyst 1% j with density of 0.8880 g / cm3 and% FAME 56.04%.
