Pemodelan Pengeringan Paper Web di Dryer Section dari Mesin Kertas dengan Analisis Perpindahan Panas dan Massa
The problem in papermaking process at dryer section of paper mill is the large heat energy
consumed to decrease residual moisture from paper web. Energy used is for nearly 1/3 of the total energy
consumption in an integrated paper mill and approximately 80% of its steam requirement. In this study a
model for paper web drying at dryer section of paper machine was developed based on heat and mass
balances around drying cycles. Temperature increase in paper web is modeled with heat equation. As the
temperature change is known, the evaporated water can be computed via mass transfer equation.
Relationships for heat transfer coefficients between paper web and the air as well as between dryer cylinder
dan paper web could be represented effectively in terms of moisture content, basis weight, dan machine
velocity. The solution for the model is computed with numerical methods by finite difference method. The
result of modelling paper web drying at dryer section shows that heat energy needed will decrease by
inreasing machine velocity. This kind of modelling gives crucial information of the dryer section, thus
helping paper manufacturers optimize dryer section configurations.
