Abstract

The purpose of this research was designing a dryer simulation using heat rejected from
radiator as the heat source. In the design process an experimental analysis of radiator performance was
investigated to knows the potential of heat energy that can produce by the radiator. The radiator
performances that investigated was the heat transfer rate at the air side radiator and the radiator
effectiveness. The design process of the dryer simulation was carried out using an electric heater to
boiling the water in the reservoir tank. The process of circulating hot water from the reservoir to the
radiator was carried out using a pump with a flow rate of 30 liters / minute. The heat dissipation process
on the radiator was carried out using a fan with a flow rate of 1 m /s. The results showed that the excess
heat generated by the radiator will tend to increase with time. Average heat transfer rate is 3974.3 Watts,
and the maximum heat transfer rate was 4680 Watt at 6 minutes. The effectiveness of the radiator (ɛ) over
time tends to increase with an average of ɛ = 0.3 and the maximum value were 0.35 at 12 minutes.
